It’s Up To Use
I’m saddened by the current circumstance of our nation’s people. Note I mention people and not the nation. The point is to make it clear that nations don’t fail individuals in them do. The blame is ours not the government, but the people in it.
We must stop pointing fingers and blaming others for the current state of affairs and become accountable for our own part in the nation’s worsening condition. The longer we go on blaming others for the situation we’re in the longer we miss out on doing our part to make the situation better.
Yes, we are all responsible as individuals, for the bad situation of our nation, probably the most pampered people on earth. The problem is we are lazy, greedy, corrupt, ego centered, hypocritical and basically irresponsible people who want a quick fix to almost everything that goes wrong in our lives. In doing this we only deal with the effect and not the cause of our problems.
How did we get this way?
o We let ourselves get into believing things without reason. Our religion and politics are good examples of how we indulge in letting others think for us. Our addiction to blind faith places us at the mercy of manipulation and oppression.
This epidemic of unreasoned conviction in what we’re told to believe causes us to argue with the requirements of wisdom, limits our ability to lead, and increases our tendency to follow.
o We let ourselves be driven by the acquisition of things we don’t need and pay for them with what we don’t have. These things fill our lives’ with nothing but delusion and wasted time that distracts us from the acquisition of knowledge… and makes us dependant not dependable.
o We don’t take full responsibility and ownership for what happens to us. This is one of our biggest blunders, leaving us vulnerable to blame something or someone else for our failures and frequently results in us not learning from our mistakes.
We’re obsessed with the blame game that causes family relationships to fail because we don’t take responsibility for our actions. By not being accountable for our action we forget the commitment that was made that put us in the relationship in the first place. We need to learn that knowing and being truthful with ourselves is the only way to find harmony with others.
It may not be obvious to you, but our problems are related to a root cause, belief without question and understanding. This is not only destroying our society, but the world community as well. We only have to look at Islamic extremists to see the destructive nature of unreasoned conviction. Dieing for what one believes is morally justified and to be admired. But dieing for something someone else tells us to believe is foolish and irresponsible.
We must take total responsibility for our actions and lack thereof, because as individuals we contribute to our social accomplishments and failures. By not taking responsibility for our failures we stunt our growth as spiritual beings and limit our ability to acquire the wisdom to inspire the world to achieve the harmony we so desperately need.
